If I lived as though I as going to die on the morrow, I would have caused many pools to be closed down by now. :p That's the one problem I have with Thomas' essay -- he assumes that all fastidious persons who keep death in mind and "live as though they will die tomorrow" will stave off sexual addiction. Yet all you need to do is randomly select any of the multiple "What if I am told by my doctor I'm going to die tomorrow?" movies Hollywood has put out over the years to see that most people go completely hedonistic if they really convince themselves that they are on death's doorstep. (One example is a Queen Latifah film in which she empties out her life's savings and spends it extravagantly "living the good life" she can't possibly afford because she thinks she is going to die in just a week. It turns out she's wrong and, if the movie hadn't been a romantic comedy, it would have ended with her life in shambles.)

Other than that, I think it is great advice to "live as though you might die tomorrow," because that way, people leave behind no regrets and try their best at all that they care about.
